March Brown – The Traditional Dry Fly for Spring Hatches
The March Brown is a Dry Fly designed to imitate early season mayflies, especially those of the Rhithrogena genus. With its reddish brown body and hen hackle wings, this fly offers excellent buoyancy and a natural profile that attracts trout and grayling.
Perfect for fishing moderately fast moving water, the March Brown is an excellent choice for targeting spring and fall hatches when fish are actively feeding on the surface.
How to Fish with the March Brown – Dry Fly
Ideal for fishing on rising waters , when fish feed directly on the surface during mayfly hatches. The dead-drift presentation is effective for simulating the natural drift of insects, but can be slightly animated to stimulate the attack. It works best in moderately fast waters, where its structure allows it to maintain good buoyancy. It can be used alone or in combination with other dry flies to diversify the approach.
Add the March Brown to your dry fly selection and enjoy its effectiveness on early season hatches!
